Rain, rain and more rain

This won’t take long. The worst weekend of this summer (and that’s saying something) saw all 6 league matches abandoned without a ball being bowled on Saturday and on Sunday we also lost two adult friendlies and a women’s match at Radlett. Very disappointing.

Last Sunday’s friendly – news of which came in too late for my report – was lost to Hampton Hill, but Joe Brookes scored 43 for us, and it’s also worth noting that Ben Porter, who scored an unbeaten 50 for them, is the son of Chiswick club legend Joe Porter. Well batted Ben, chip off the old block.

In the week, the T20 side thrashed Indian Gymkhana. We racked up 215 – Perry Pearce (43*) playing second fiddle to a brilliant 100 off 55 balls by James Harris – and restricted them to 129. We are now top of the table on net run rate.

In junior games, the U13s lost to Ealing on Tuesday. Today saw the last junior practice – mostly dodging the showers – although games continue for another 10 days or so. Thanks to all the junior players who have represented the club this season, thanks to their parents and carers for getting them to games and practices, and thanks to the coaching and management team who have been immense throughout. Lastly, thanks to those senior players who have been able to come down on Sundays through the season – including three this morning – which has really helped. More please!

Let’s hope for a drier week this week (fat chance – I’m going to the Lord’s test on Wednesday, so rain is a certainty) and we can go into the second half of the league season with teams mostly pretty well placed. Let’s press on from here.
